Divine Truth Art Exhibition

Power gives strength, yet it often comes from a history of oppression and trauma. In the end, adversities create an external force that allows for more depth and a closer connection to divinity. The purpose of this exhibition is to shine a light on the courage, fortitude, and struggles of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).

These ten mixed media paintings are steeped in symbolism and biographical in nature. Apart from highlighting the beauty that grows out of adversity, the objective is to emphasize truths that arise from the aftermath of a suppressive society. The gold leaf motifs represent the sacredness of struggle and the beauty that grows from fighting for truth.

The Divine Truth is a collaboration between visual artists Dulcinea Herrera and FiveXMedia. Five photographed 11 people in Kansas City that are the muses for Dulcinea’s paintings. Each painting speaks to the divinity in differences and the transition of pain into power.

The Unplaza Art Fair will be September 21 & 22. It is a protest against the Plaza Art Fair because the Plaza Art Fair does not allow local Kansas City artist to display art unless they pay an enormous fee. They are also not diverse in age or ethnicity whatsoever. Dulcinea will have an art booth selling paintings that reflect her culture and imagination.

Creative Collaboration

Dulcinea Herrera and Cheyenne Howard did their own art installation down at the West Bottoms gallery. Through their art in this exhibit, they aim to shed light on the social complications that African American, Native American, and Latino peoples have battled throughout America’s untold history. In order to understand these beautiful cultures, one has to understand the hardships that these cultures continue to fight every day in this country. We aim to show appreciation for these underrepresented communities as the mass media largely ignores their existence and experience.  On the dark side are the suppression, struggle, and violence that minorities in the U.S. have endured throughout time. On the light side is the celebration of beauty, culture, and contribution to the collective society of the U.S. Because we are artists that have grown up in this country with the “minority” experience, We offer up a glimpse into this background through our perceptions, both light, and dark.
